Matheus ANTUNES

Armazém 22

Born in BH – Brazil, is an forró teacher and founder of the Balaio Berlin – a dance studio in Germany. His forró journey began in 2012, first learning Universitário, then Roots.

In his classes you will learn not only moves, but also dance fundamentals and other important topics in couple dance.

Musicality: Complex Breaks and Patterns

As you know, the music can have variations in dynamics. That includes simple breaks, complex ones, and also variations in intonation that can also be represented with the respective variations in your movement; making your dance richer and more musical. This class works on musicality tools for followers and leaders, to be used in their interaction, or also independently.

REQUIREMENTS:  Confidence with rhythm and simple breaks (preferably, knowledge about what is the “strong beat” in the music).

Variations of Posture & Connection

When we learn new movements, it’s frequent that we first are able to execute them alone, but we still have a hard time doing them with a partner. Often that’s an issue with connection, which can get way better with the appropriate posture, making the couple dance more pleasant for both.

REQUIREMENTS: None

Displacement & Arrastapé

One of the important skills in dance is the ability to walk/displace on the dance floor. Some specific moves allow us to do it in a natural way with a lot of fun. And in the beautiful rhythm of arrastapé we can do it with even more freedom!

REQUIREMENTS: Any version of the walk/displacement

Surprising Connections for Walk + Paulista

A more advanced variation of the most traditional turn of the roots style: the Paulista! Probably my favorite variation, in which the communication for the turn does not start from the open opposition (using the hands) but from the closed embrace (using the body), creating a surprising effect!

REQUIREMENTS: Any variation of the paulista turn.
